Judy Blume gives fictional narrative to historical events that took place in her hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey when she was a teenager. Three commercial airplanes fall out of the sky around Newark Airport. Blume tells the story of members of the community and how these tragic events changed their lives forever.
Blume’s writing style is consistant with the rest of her books. Quick scene jumping, short windows into the lives of all of the characters as the plot unfolds, each one ending with the Blume characteristic quick and witty finish. Some of the plot is told through newspaper snippets written by one of the characters.
It is hard to imagine what these events must have done to their lives. Blume does a great job of making the reader a member of the community as the three events occur and we look back on them. This was a very enjoyable book.
