Even though I blew my reading goals out of the water this year, I by no means read enough new books to give a definitive “best of” list. But the following is a list of my favorite books from 2015 (read: books that I gave 5 stars on Goodreads that were published in 2015). For each title, I have included a link to my review.
Picture Books
Toys Meet Snow by Emily Jenkins, Illustrated by Paul O. Zelinsky
The White Book by Silvia Borando
Wait by Antoinette Portis
Float by Daniel Miyares- This title is a favorite in mock Caldecotts!
Water is Water: A Book About the Water Cycle by Miranda Paul
Henry’s Stars by David Elliot
Yard Sale by Eve Bunting
Look by Jeff Mack
Red: A Crayon’s Story by Michael Hall
Stick and Stone by Beth Ferry
Early Readers
I Will Take a Nap by Mo Willems
Ballet Cat: The Totally Secret Secret by Bob Shea
What This Story Needs is a Pig in a Wig by Emma J. Virjan
Middle Grade
Sunny Side Up by Jennifer Holm
George by Alex Gino
Circus Mirandus by Cassie Beasley
Young Adult
I admittedly did not read that many new young adult books this year. The few that I did read didn’t particularly blow me over. But I did sneak in one last book at the end of the year that had me really engaged.
I am Princess X by Cherie Priest
The American Library Association’s Youth Media Awards announcement takes place at their Midwinter Meeting in Boston on January 11th.
I wonder if any of these fantastic books will be getting recognized! You can stream the announcement live here.
Though the books I read in 2015 had an average page length of 74 pages, I DO read “adult” books (whatever that means). These were two of my favorites from this year.
Aurora by Kim Stanley Robinson
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
My goals for 2016? Simply read as much as I possibly can. With two kids and lots of work travel, that is really the best I can do. And all I really want. 🙂 Happy reading this year!
