Storytime: Love

Welcome Song

My welcome song for the winter session is We Clap and Sing Hello

We Clap and Sing Hello
We clap and sing hello. We clap and sing hello. With our friends at storytime we clap and sing hello.
We wave and sing hello. We wave and sing hello. With our friends at storytime we wave and sing hello.
We stomp… We sway… We jump… We sit…
(Sometimes, depending on the mood of the room, I ask for suggestions for others we can do.)

ABCs and Letter of the Week

We sing the ABCs and then I introduce a flannel of the letter of the week as well as several objects that begin with that letter. This week, the letter L for lemon, leaf, ladybug, and love.

If You Love Me and You Know It
If you love me and you know it, clap your hands
If you love me and you know it, clap your hands
If you love me and you know it and you really want to show it
If you love me and you know it, clap your hands

Blow a kiss… Give a hug… Clap your hands

Magic Penny- with ukulele
Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away
Love is something if you give it away, you end up having more.
Love is like a magic penny. If you hold it tight then you won’t have many.
Loan it out and you’ll have so many they roll all over the floor.
Love is something if you give it away, give it away, give it away
Love is something if you give it away, you end up having more.

You Are My Sunshine- with ukulele
You are my sunshine. My only sunshine.
You make me happy when skies are gray.
You’ll never know dear how much I love you.
Please don’t take my sunshine away.

This is the only verse of this song I am willing to sing because the rest of the lyrics are just creepy.

Craft/Activity

We used dot painters to make hearts and then drew a picture of something or someone we love in the middle. I specifically didn’t ever call these Valentine’s, but of course, they could be.
